What is a Notary?

A Notary Public is a person of proven integrity legally authorized by the Secretary of State to serve the public as an impartial witness in administering oaths and affirmations, taking acknowledgments, and performing other acts authorized by law.  Notaries also help to deter fraud by verifying the identity of a person who signs a document.  For their services, the Notary can receive a fee from the customer.
